latitude c400 update

I finally got all the parts (and got them installed) to upgrade the Latitude C400 laptop Danika's mom gave me. Everything appears to be in working order. The laptop now has a 160GB hard drive (which the BIOS shows as 137.4, but the OS appears to be able to see the entire drive), an Intel Pro 2200 802.11b/g wireless card and 1GB of RAM (which was probably an unnecessary upgrade, but I got a good deal on it).

Getting everything installed was not without issue. I tested the hard drive when I received it (it is a new drive from Newegg) and initially badblocks reported errors. I was using a USB IDE adapter which I think may have been the source of the problem. I ran some more tests with the SMART tools and they said the hard drive was fine. When I reran badblocks with the drive in the laptop it completed without error, in any case, I am calling it good. The laptop seems to be a little finicky about RAM, initially it didn't like the RAM either, but after playing around with it (reseating it, changing the slots each stick was in) I managed to get the BIOS to recognize the full 1GB and it passed Memtest86+. I haven't setup WPA yet with the wireless card, but I have gotten it work without any problems on our 802.11b network. Once I get everything installed again, I hope to get WPA working without too much fuss.

My next step is to install Fedora 11 on it again. As I mentioned in another post, I have already installed Fedora 11 on it. It was a bit of a pain, so my plan is to take notes during the installation process and most likely create a post about it.
